Stand against those disrupting people’s peace: Nazrul

BNP Standing Committee member and Prime Minister’s Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan has called for standing against those disrupting public peace and the government’s development efforts.
He made the remarks at a rally organised by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, on Monday.
Nazrul said, “We do not beg from anyone. We are hardworking people. A democratic government has been established in Bangladesh through an election. Therefore, we must stand against those who are disrupting public peace and the government’s development efforts.”
He said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had described himself as a worker and was proud of it. According to Nazrul, BNP has always stood with the people in the struggle to restore democracy.
“People shed blood in 1971 for democracy, development and peace. Even after that, we had to remain in the field of struggle for 17 years. Working people made the greatest sacrifices in 2024,” he said.
Nazrul urged party activists not to do anything that could give their “common rivals” an opportunity to create problems.
“We are not involved in extortion. Genuine party activists are not involved either. Anyone who is truly a follower of Ziaur Rahman can never be an extortionist or land grabber. Extortionists are not BNP members,” he said.
He also said it was too early to determine whether the government had succeeded or failed, as only about one-tenth of its term had elapsed.
