Mother, daughter killed in Gazipur road accident

A woman and her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter were killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Gazipur early Monday.

The accident occurred around 2 AM in Meghdubi area under Pubail Police Station on the Dhaka City Bypass, police said.

The deceased were identified as Ruzuka Begum, daughter of Sekandar Ali of Baghata village in Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur, and her daughter Yamni. Ruzuka was the wife of Monir Hossain. They lived in a rented house in the Salna Bazar area of Gazipur.

According to police and local sources, the mother and daughter were seriously injured after an unidentified vehicle hit them on the Dhaka Bypass late Sunday night.

After being informed through the national emergency service 999, Pubail police reached the scene and rescued them. They were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Ruzuka dead after examination.

Yamni died while undergoing treatment around 3 AM.

Their bodies are currently at the hospital morgue.

Pubail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikul Islam confirmed the deaths and said police were working to identify the vehicle involved and take further legal action.
