No government role in Zaima Rahman’s UN appointment: Mahadi Amin

There was no government involvement in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman’s appointment to a P-3 position at the UN headquarters, Prime Minister’s Adviser and Office spokesperson Dr Mahadi Amin said on Wednesday.

He said Zaima was appointed based on her qualifications and professional experience and that the government had no role in the process.

Amin made the remarks at a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Tarique Rahman’s participation in the 81st UN General Assembly and his New York visit.

He said the prime minister highlighted Bangladesh’s democratic progress, development policies and contribution to global peace during the visit, holding 11 meetings with world leaders over four days.

On rising fuel, gas and electricity prices, Amin said prices had increased globally amid the Middle East conflict and that the government was working to minimise the impact on the public.
