Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan has expressed hope that development cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan will be further strengthened.

He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shin-ichi at his office in the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The minister briefed the ambassador on the progress of various development projects and thanked the Japanese government and people for their continued support since Bangladesh’s independence.

He said Japan has long been an important development partner of Bangladesh and its assistance has contributed significantly to the country’s socioeconomic development.

The meeting discussed Japan-backed development projects, water supply, waste management and sustainable development, as well as opportunities for future cooperation. They also discussed strengthening democratic institutions and other issues of mutual interest.

Senior officials from the ministry and the Japanese Embassy attended the meeting.
