A total of 12 primary school students fell ill after consuming food supplied under the School Feeding Program at Lohlamari Government Primary School in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday (September 30).
The students experienced sudden abdominal pain and vomiting shortly after eating their tiffin meals during noon hours. Schoolteachers immediately rescued the affected children and admitted them to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex.
District Primary Education Officer Md. Saiful Islam confirmed on Thursday morning (October 1) that all 12 students have fully recovered following necessary medical treatment and have returned to their respective homes.
In response to the incident, District Commissioner Abu Saleha Mohammad Musa Jangi issued an official order forming a six-member investigation committee to determine the cause of the illness and assess the quality of the supplied food.
The probe committee is headed by the Additional District Commissioner (Education and ICT) as convener, with the Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer, District Primary Education Officer, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Safe Food Officer, and District Sanitary Inspector serving as members.
The committee has been instructed to submit a comprehensive report within three working days, identifying the root cause of the incident and pinpointing any responsible individuals or organizations.
