Two children found dead in pond at wedding house

A wedding celebration turned into mourning after two children attending the event drowned in a pond in Rangpur Sadar on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM in Arazi village of Mominpur union. The deceased were Rupa Rani, 10, of Badarganj, and Panchami Rani Roy, 8, of Taraganj. Locals said they were cousins.

The children went missing around 1:30 PM while attending the wedding of their relative Ratan Chandra Roy. Relatives began searching for them after they failed to return.

Later, locals searched a nearby pond and recovered their bodies from the water around 3pm.

Rangpur Sadar Kotwali Police Station OC Ataur Rahman said the children drowned while bathing in the pond. Police visited the scene following the incident.

The deaths cast a pall of grief over the wedding house, with relatives breaking down after the bodies were brought back.
