
KHULNA, Oct 1: An archaeological survey aimed at exploring the rich history and heritage of Pirojpur District began in four upazilas for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Thursday, said a press release issued by the Department of Archaeology for Khulna.
Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abu Sayeed formally inaugurated the survey at a ceremony here on Thursday morning.
Regional Director of the Department of Archaeology for Khulna and Barishal divisions Md Mahidul Islam chaired the inaugural function.
The survey will be conducted in Pirojpur Sadar, Kawkhali, Nesarabad (Swarupkathi) and Nazirpur upazilas.
Officials said the survey is expected to help identify and document unexplored archaeological sites and relics in the region, creating opportunities for their preservation in the future.
Officials and employees of the district administration and the Department of Archaeology attended the programme.
Among others, Custodian of Bagerhat Museum Md Zayed, Field Officer Mosammat Irene Parvin, Assistant Custodian of Michael Madhusudan Dutta Memorial Museum (MM Dutta Bari) Md Hasanuzzaman and Assistant Custodian of Barishal Divisional Museum Arifur Rahman were present.
Local dignitaries and journalists from print and electronic media also attended the inaugural event, the press release added.
