RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM, Oct 1: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Thursday said tackling corruption and irregularities across the state machinery would require cooperation from the public alongside law enforcement agencies.

“Corruption and irregularities exist at different levels of the state. It is not possible to stop them by relying solely on law enforcement agencies. Cooperation from people at all levels is needed alongside law enforcement,” he told journalists after inaugurating the new building of the Rajarhat Upazila Parishad around 11:30am.

The minister said the government was giving special attention to Kurigram, a relatively underdeveloped district with a large number of people living below the poverty line.

“We are giving the highest priority to Kurigram. There will be no neglect here,” he said, adding that the government was also paying greater attention to the district's law and order situation.

Dulu said he would also make efforts to establish a sand research centre in Kurigram.

On the Teesta Master Plan, he said its implementation was important to resolve the longstanding problems faced by people living along the river.

“Once the Teesta Master Plan is implemented, it will create an opportunity to change the lives of around two crore people living along the Teesta,” he said.

The survey for the plan is underway and the technical survey has been completed, he said.

“We will be able to start the work in the next fiscal year,” he added. The same timeline was also reported by several outlets on Thursday.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the new upazila office building by unveiling its plaque around 11am.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Annapurna Debnath, Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, District Council Administrator Sohel Hossain Kaikobad, District BNP Convener Mostafizar Rahman, Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, Rajarhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanzila Tasnim and Officer-in-Charge Mamunur Rashid, among others, were present.
