The implementation of the Teesta Master Plan will begin in the next fiscal year after completion of the technical survey, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said on Friday.
He said implementation of the plan would improve the living standards of around 20 million people living on both banks of the Teesta River.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the new administrative building of Rajarhat Upazila in Kurigram.
He said the state machinery had been crippled during the 17 years of “fascist rule”, leaving irregularities and corruption in different sectors beyond the law and order situation.
“We are working to address these issues,” he said.
Dulu stressed the need for public cooperation along with law enforcement agencies to improve the law and order situation. The situation would improve further if the public and administration worked together, he said.
The minister said various projects had been taken up to create employment opportunities for the people of Kurigram.
He said implementation of these projects would create jobs and help build public confidence in the government.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath, Zila Parishad Administrator Sohel Hossain Kaikobad, Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, District BNP Convener Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, and other district and upazila-level leaders attended the event.
