The main investigating officer (IO) Md Rafiqul Islam will give his second day of testimony today in the crimes against humanity case involving over a hundred enforced disappearances and killings against Major General (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan.
The incomplete deposition will be taken on Sunday before the judicial panel headed by International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.
Prosecution stated that Rafiqul Islam began his testimony as the 15th witness on September 30, providing a partial statement before the tribunal fixed Sunday for completion. During his deposition, the IO will detail his investigative steps, gathered evidence, seized items, and their relevance to the charges.
Prosecutor Gazi M.H. Tamim stated that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against Ziaul Ahsan beyond reasonable doubt through 15 witnesses. Following the completion of the IO's deposition and cross-examination, the defense may present witnesses before final arguments begin.
The tribunal faces three specific charges against Ziaul Ahsan, including the murder of Sajal and two others in Pubail in 2011, and the extrajudicial killings of 100 people across the Baleshwar River and Sundarbans between 2010 and 2013 under the guise of anti-piracy drives.
