A cyclone may form in the Bay of Bengal this October, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasting two to three low-pressure systems over the bay during the month, one of which could intensify into a depression or cyclone.
According to the BMD’s October long-range forecast issued on Thursday (October 1), the southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from Bangladesh during the first half of the month.
The country is expected to receive below-normal rainfall in October, although several days of thunderstorms may occur in different parts of the country.
The BMD also forecast that daytime and nighttime temperatures may gradually decline in the second half of October, while remaining slightly above the seasonal average overall.
Heavy rainfall associated with any low-pressure system could also cause temporary rises in water levels in parts of northern, northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh.
