Govt warns UNOs to stay alert

The government has warned all Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) to remain vigilant against any attempt to destabilise the situation ahead of Durga Puja and ensure that no disorder takes place.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam made the call at a review meeting with UNOs and Deputy Directors (Local Government) at the Cooperative Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Saturday (October 3).

The state minister also directed UNOs to make maximum efforts to ensure free, fair and impartial local government elections, assuring them of the government’s full cooperation.

He further proposed providing discretionary funds to UNOs so they can offer immediate assistance of Tk 2,000 to Tk 5,000 to poor people in their respective areas.

Local Government Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan and Public Administration State Minister Md Abdul Bari were also present at the meeting.
