Police arrested Sharmin Sultana Sarmi, former organizational secretary of Juba Mahila League, from the capital's Sheikh Saheb Bazar area early Sunday.
A team from Lalbagh Police Station conducted a drive around 1:30 AM based on secret information and arrested the 44-year-old in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Lalbagh Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Mostak Sarkar confirmed the arrest on Sunday morning.
DC Mostak Sarkar said, "police acted on intelligence to locate Sharmin in the Sheikh Saheb Bazar area. Necessary legal procedures against her are currently underway."
According to police sources, Sharmin Sultana Sarmi previously served as the organizational secretary of the banned Chhatra League's Eden Mohila College unit. She was also a former assistant secretary of the Awami League sub-committee and served as the organizational secretary of Juba Mahila League from 2017 to 2022.
