The scheduled testimony in the crimes against humanity case against Awami League presidium member Qamrul Islam and Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon has been deferred.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Monday fixed October 7 for the next hearing.
A single bench headed by Tribunal Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury passed the order after prosecutor Sultan Mahmud sought additional time on behalf of the prosecution.
Other prosecutors, including Moinul Karim, Mamunur Rashid and Marzina Raihan, were present.
The prosecution was scheduled to record the deposition of its fifth witness against Kamrul and Menon on Monday. The witness appeared before the tribunal as scheduled, but the prosecution sought time as the two accused were giving testimony in another case.
Kamrul and Menon, who are in custody, were produced before the tribunal in the morning.
The fourth witness in the case, July uprising activist Hannan Mia, gave his deposition on September 28.
According to the prosecution, Kamrul and Menon allegedly made statements and took actions aimed at sustaining the government of Sheikh Hasina. The prosecution alleges that, while holding senior positions in the Awami League and the 14-party alliance, they encouraged the use of lethal weapons against unarmed students and members of the public and the imposition of curfews.
The prosecution further alleges that gunfire was subsequently used against protesters, resulting in the deaths of 23 people in and around the Badda area of Dhaka, with many others injured.
The allegations are part of the prosecution's case and remain subject to adjudication by the tribunal.
