Police have seized around 2,500 bottles of Indian liquor worth an estimated Tk 63 lakh from a sand-laden truck in Companiganj, Sylhet, and detained two people in connection with the seizure.
The detained men are Kamrul Islam, 30, son of Kamal Mia of Kutubpur area under Fatullah police station in Narayanganj, and Ruhul Amin, 30, son of Abdus Sattar of Jalkuri area under Siddhirganj police station.
Police said they were conducting vehicle searches at a checkpoint in the Companiganj police station area on Monday morning when they stopped the sand-laden truck and searched it.
They subsequently seized around 2,500 bottles of liquor of different brands from the truck.
Sylhet Superintendent of Police Dr Chowdhury Md Jaber Sadeque confirmed the seizure, saying the district police had a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.
He said regular drives were being conducted to prevent the illegal sale, transportation and spread of drugs and that such operations would continue.
The SP said a case had been filed against the detained men and they had been sent to court.
