A 28-year-old nurse who was found hanging in a bathroom at Dhaka Medical College Hospital has been identified as Tannmoyee Mondal.
Her relatives identified the body at the Dhaka Medical College morgue on Monday afternoon.
Tannmoyee was a nurse at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and lived in a hostel of Anwar Khan Modern Hospital, her younger sister Tandra Mondal said. Their home is in Aichar Math village of Agailjhara upazila in Barishal.
According to Tandra, Tannmoyee had been in a relationship with Akash Mitra, son of Makhon Mitra of Mathbaria in Pirojpur, for about a year. Akash lived in South Keraniganj and was married.
Tandra alleged that Akash had promised to divorce his wife but later deceived Tannmoyee and took Tk 2 lakh from her on various pretexts.
She said Tannmoyee learned on Sunday that Akash had died by suicide at his home in Keraniganj. His body was kept at the Dhaka Medical College morgue.
Tannmoyee went to the morgue after learning about Akash's death, Tandra said. She later died after allegedly hanging herself in a bathroom of the hospital.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman said police were informed by the hospital camp police in the morning and recovered the woman's hanging body from a bathroom.
A cut mark was found on her left wrist, while a bag containing a note was recovered beside the body, he said.
The note reportedly read: “You are no longer in this world, I will not live either.”
The OC said relatives later identified the body. He added that the body had been sent to the morgue for autopsy and the actual cause of death would be known after the post-mortem examination.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brig Gen AKM Farhad Hossain said the hospital authorities could not initially identify the woman and police were investigating the incident.
He said CCTV footage was being examined and showed the woman walking inside the hospital alone. She was seen entering the bathroom, but no one was seen accompanying her.
