For the first time, the government has introduced a lottery-based transfer system for sub-registrars in an effort to address public perceptions of favouritism and irregularities in their postings.
A total of 131 sub-registrars have been transferred in the first phase, said Law Minister Asaduzzaman on Tuesday after inaugurating the transfer process.
He said, “There is a negative perception among the public about the transfer and posting of sub-registrars. Everything cannot be changed overnight. We have to start somewhere, and that process begins today.''
Asaduzzaman added postings in Dhaka are widely regarded as “prize postings”, with the assumption that those appointed to the capital’s offices are given greater importance.
“This is the first lottery for those prize postings.''
Of the 131 sub-registrars selected nationwide, 18 have been chosen through a lottery for the capital’s 18 sub-registry offices, the minister said.
The selected officials will subsequently be assigned to important sub-registry offices based on their professional competence and performance.
The law minister also warned that officials found engaging in corruption after taking charge at their new postings would be removed from those positions.
