Low pressure may form over Bay, rain forecast for 5 days

A low-pressure system may form over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, bringing rain and thunderstorms to different parts of Bangladesh over the next five days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The forecast was issued for 120 hours from 9am Tuesday.

On Tuesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Daytime temperatures may fall slightly across the country, while nighttime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

On Wednesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur at a few places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

The extent of rainfall may increase on Thursday. Many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and some places in Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience rain or thundershowers. Moderate to heavy rain may occur at some places, while daytime temperatures may fall slightly.

On Friday, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions and at some places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Some places may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country on Friday.

On Saturday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at one or two places in all eight divisions. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly, while nighttime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, Khulna recorded the country’s highest temperature of 35.5°C between 6am Monday and 6am Tuesday.

The highest rainfall during the period was recorded at 26mm in Ambagan, Chattogram.
