
Four new books will be introduced for students of Classes IV and VI from 2027 as part of changes to the curriculum, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan said on Tuesday.
Under the 2027 curriculum, sports and cultural activities will be included for Class IV, while joyful learning and technical education will be introduced for Class VI. The four new books will be provided to students next year, the minister said.
Necessary changes and revisions to the curriculum will begin from 2028, he added.
The minister made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 53rd Summer National Sports Competition at Bhasha Sainik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking at the event, Milan said the prime minister was giving importance to sports alongside education and had allocated the highest budget to the education sector.
He urged students interested in sports education to develop their skills and contribute to building the country.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Suman said the government had given special priority to sports to promote a healthy society by keeping young people away from drugs.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the government wanted to institutionalise sports as a profession, enabling students to showcase their talent and creativity and help establish Bangladesh as a successful sporting nation.
Milan inaugurated the national-level competition, chaired by Directorate General of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel.
A total of 404 students from four regions across the country are competing in the final rounds of swimming, chess, kabaddi and handball.
