Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) Vice-Chancellor's PS, Section Officer Najmul Hossain, filed a case with Rajputra Police Station against 50 to 60 unidentified individuals late Tuesday night.
Following the filing, police arrested Abdus Salam, vice-president of Rajputra Thana BNP, from his residence in the Paramedical area of the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Gaziur Rahman confirmed that the case covers forced entry, illegal restraint, physical assault, disruption of official duties, looting of state property, and coercion of resignation. He added that law enforcement officers are analyzing video footage to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.
In response to the harassment, assault, and death threats directed at the Vice-Chancellor, university officers and employees have planned a human chain demonstration on campus.
The incident has left a tense atmosphere across the university premises. RMU Deputy Registrar Dr Md Mofakkharul Islam reported that while staff members arrived at work, normal operations have ceased due to safety concerns and fear following the attack on the university head.
