Twenty-two districts are set to get government-run ‘Shishu Swarga’ centres to provide integrated treatment and rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy, Health State Minister Dr MA Muhit said.
He made the remarks at an event marking World Cerebral Palsy Day at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon on Tuesday (October 6).
The minister said around 350,000 children in Bangladesh suffer from cerebral palsy and the centres are being established to ensure their treatment and rehabilitation. A pilot project has also been launched at Korail slum, where around 300 identified children are receiving services.
He stressed the need for community-based early case detection to ensure healthcare reaches children in remote areas and called for a more inclusive healthcare system for children with disabilities.
