Five more die of dengue in 24 hour

Five more people have died of dengue and 1,935 new patients have been hospitalised across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 294 and total hospitalisations to 94,151 this year.

The latest figures were released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (October 8).

Of the five latest deaths, four were men and one was a woman.

Dengue deaths have risen sharply in recent months, with 148 deaths recorded in September and 49 in October so far. The highest single-day death toll this month was 10, recorded on October 6.

In terms of monthly hospitalisations, October has already recorded 14,531 cases, compared with 43,774 in September and 20,536 in August.

Since the beginning of the year, 88,208 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
