An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Barishal Airport Police Station has been temporarily suspended after being detained during a Department of Narcotics Control raid, allegedly damaging the image of the police.
The departmental action was taken on the orders of Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh, Deputy Commissioner Sushanta Sarkar confirmed on Friday.
Police and related sources said the Department of Narcotics Control conducted a raid at the residence of a man named Mirajul Islam in Panchgaon area of Karapur Union under Barishal Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.
Four people were detained during the operation along with drug-use equipment. ASI Delwar Hossain was among them and identified himself as a member of Airport Police Station.
An inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control immediately informed the officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station. As no drugs were found on Delwar, he was later handed over to members of Airport Police who arrived at the scene.
Deputy Commissioner Sushanta Sarkar said Delwar had been on 15 days of recreational leave since September 30. The departmental action was taken immediately after police learned of his detention during the narcotics raid.

Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh has instructed that strict action be taken against any police member involved in drug-related or similar antisocial activities.
