Mother-in-law, daughter-in-law killed in bus crash

A woman and her daughter-in-law were killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka-Bakshiganj highway in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur early Saturday.
The accident occurred around 6:00 AM in the Thakurpara area of Nilakhia Union.
The deceased were identified as Ufeja Begum, 65, and her daughter-in-law Farida Begum, 40, residents of Thakurpara village in the upazila.
According to local residents, a Shanti Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka towards Roumari via Bakshiganj hit the two women while they were standing beside the road. They died on the spot.
After the accident, locals seized the bus and detained its helper, identified as Mohinuddin, before handing him over to police.
Bakshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mokbul Hossain confirmed the incident at around 10:00 AM on Saturday. He said police had seized the bus and the helper had been detained. Legal proceedings were underway, he added.
