State Minister for Cultural Affairs and Rajbari-1 MP Ali Newaz Mahmud Khoyam has said young people have an important role in ensuring gender equality and building a discrimination-free society.
He stressed the need to challenge negative social attitudes and promote equality, mutual respect and human values at home, in educational institutions and in society.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a youth dialogue under the “Youth for Equality” project, organised by Sonakandor Development Club at Nannu Tower Convention Centre in Rajbari town at 11:30 AM on Saturday.
Khoyam said raising awareness among young people could help reduce gender-based discrimination. He called for joint efforts by local government bodies, administration, educational institutions and community leaders to achieve equality.
The programme was chaired by club President Humaiya Akter Rinthi. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shankar Chandra Baidya, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shamsul Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development Chaina Banerjee and teachers’ leader Gazi Ahsan Habib also spoke.
Students and club members shared their views and experiences at the event. The organisers said the dialogue aimed to raise awareness about equality and rights and encourage young people to help build a discrimination-free society.
