Customs raid seizes over 72,000 kg of untaxed yarn

Customs officials seized 72,944 kg of yarn without tax papers from four unregistered warehouses in Araihazar on Saturday. The yarn is worth about Tk 2.95 crore.

According to a press release from the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Narayanganj, dated October 10, 2026, a preventive team carried out the raid at 10 am. The warehouses belong to Anik Traders, owned by Haji Mobarak Molla, in Purinda Bazar, Araihazar.

The team found metallic yarn, polyester yarn and nylon yarn, all said to be of Chinese and Indian origin.

None of it had the tax invoices required by law. All the yarn has been seized.

The Commissionerate said legal action has already started to collect the revenue owed to the government. It did not say whether anyone has been arrested or fined, or how much tax is due.

Yarn is the basic raw material for the textile and garment trade, and goods moved without invoices cost the government revenue.

Such raids aim to make sure traders pay what they owe.
