Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad has strongly condemned the attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that left several people dead and injured, including Bangladeshi nationals, pledging government support for the affected Umrah pilgrims.

The minister contacted Mohammad Ali Kashemi, group leader of the affected pilgrims, to inquire about the condition of the injured and emphasised the need for proper medical treatment, security and other necessary assistance. He also arranged support for their safe accommodation on Saturday night.

In a statement, Kaikobad said the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi nationals and Umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia remained a top priority for the government. He said the Ministry of Religious Affairs, along with other relevant ministries and government agencies, had been instructed to monitor the situation round the clock under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The government is maintaining close coordination with the relevant Saudi authorities to ensure medical care, safe accommodation and smooth travel for affected Bangladeshis and other pilgrims, the minister said. Authorities are also monitoring the broader situation to ensure that Bangladeshi nationals face no unnecessary difficulties and that pilgrims can complete their Umrah safely and return home.

Describing the attack as unacceptable, Kaikobad said violence endangering innocent people and pilgrims visiting the holy sites could not be tolerated. He called on Muslim-majority countries and the wider Muslim world to unite in condemning such attacks.

The minister also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and assured them that the Bangladesh government would provide necessary assistance, including medical care and other support for the injured.

He thanked the Saudi government and relevant authorities for their prompt measures to provide medical assistance, accommodation and security to the affected pilgrims. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed confidence that the longstanding friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries would continue to strengthen.

The minister said continued communication was being maintained with Saudi authorities as the situation developed, with particular attention to the safety and treatment of injured Bangladeshis and the welfare of other Bangladeshi nationals and Umrah pilgrims in the kingdom.
