Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed government officials to remain vigilant and responsible to ensure that every penny of public money allocated for development projects is spent in the interest of the country and for the welfare of the people.
He gave the instruction at a meeting to review the activities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the progress of various development projects at the ministry's conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed by the relevant officials on the ministry's ongoing activities, development projects undertaken, future action plans and targets.
The Prime Minister said that many projects had been undertaken under the ministry and various targets had been set. The government would allocate budgets to achieve these targets. However, he reminded officials that the money belonged to the people. Therefore, everyone must pay attention to ensuring that every penny of public money is properly spent in the interest of the country and for the welfare of the people.
He said, “You have undertaken many projects and set many targets. The government will, of course, allocate budgets to achieve those targets. But this is public money. I would expect all of you to pay attention to ensuring that every penny of public money is properly spent in the interest of the country and for the welfare of the people.”
Describing public service as a special opportunity to work for the people of the country, the Prime Minister said that those holding government responsibilities were in a privileged position compared to the country's overall population. This opportunity must be utilized for the welfare of the people.
He said, “Those of us who are here are all privileged compared to the overall population of Bangladesh. Almighty Allah has given us an opportunity to work for our country and its people.”
