The University Grants Commission (UGC) is offering research grants of up to Tk 10 lakh to teachers at public and private universities for the 2026-27 fiscal year, inviting eligible academics to submit project proposals online by November 22.

The funding will be provided under the Promotional and Academic Staff Development research project schemes, with grant amounts varying according to the type of project and academic discipline.

Under the Academic Staff Development scheme, researchers in science and technology can receive up to Tk 10 lakh, while those in arts, social sciences and business can receive up to Tk 8 lakh.

Under the Promotional Research scheme, the maximum grant is Tk 7 lakh for science and technology projects and Tk 5 lakh for projects in arts, social sciences and business.

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility requirements differ between the two schemes.

For the Promotional Research scheme, applicants must be full-time lecturers or assistant professors and have at least two research papers published in recognised indexed journals.

For the Academic Staff Development scheme, applicants must be full-time associate professors or professors with at least five research papers published in recognised indexed journals. At least two of those papers must list the applicant as the corresponding author or last author.
Key conditions

Each research project will have a duration of one year. A principal investigator cannot submit proposals under multiple categories in the same fiscal year.

Researchers with ongoing UGC-funded projects are ineligible to apply for a new grant until they have submitted the final report for their existing project.

Recipients must also comply with UGC guidelines governing project implementation and the use of grant funds.

How to apply

Interested teachers must submit their proposals through the UGC's designated online application portal by November 22, along with the required documents and information. Proposals submitted through any other channel will not be accepted.

After completing the online submission, applicants must prepare two printed copies of their proposals. One copy must exclude the names and addresses of the researcher and university for anonymous assessment, while the other must include those details along with the necessary certifications and recommendations.

Both copies must be sent through the university registrar to the Director of the Research Grants and Awards Division, Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207.

The UGC has advised applicants to review the application guidelines and eligibility conditions carefully. Incomplete applications or proposals missing required information may be rejected.
