Police have arrested Sajjatuz Jumma, former chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank, from a restaurant in Gulshan, Dhaka.
He was arrested around 4:30pm on Friday, Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Nur said.
“There was an arrest warrant against him in a case. He was arrested on the basis of that warrant,” the OC said.
Jumma was later sent to court, he added.
According to police, Jumma was an investment client of First Security Islami Bank’s Dilkusha branch. The bank filed a case against him on April 27, 2014, over allegations of loan default.
A court subsequently sentenced him to one year in prison and fined him Tk 3 crore in the case.
Police said Gulshan police arrested him in connection with the same case on August 16, 2025, and sent him to court.
Jumma was the founding chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank. He was later removed from the bank’s board of directors over loan default issues.
