Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was rushed to hospital on Friday (October 23) after collapsing while watching the club’s reserve team training in Munich.
The 40-year-old Belgian coach had been recovering from a viral infection in recent days and had missed some training sessions earlier in the week. He returned to the touchline for Bayern’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal on Wednesday.
According to the club, Kompany is undergoing thorough medical examinations and will remain under medical care. His coaching staff will temporarily take charge of training and match-related duties.
A rescue helicopter reportedly landed at Bayern’s training ground, although the club’s statement confirmed that he had received medical attention without specifying the means of transport.
Bayern are scheduled to face Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday (October 25).
