Four new textbooks will be introduced for Class IV and Class VI students in the 2027 academic year to promote practical learning, creativity and technical skills.
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has prepared Sports and Bangladesh Culture for Class IV, and Learning with Happiness and My Technical Education for Class VI.
Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) that the initiative aims to make education more enjoyable, practical and focused on moral values and employment-oriented skills.
The National Curriculum Coordination Committee (NCC) is scheduled to consider the books for final approval at a meeting on October 25.
NCTB officials said around 15 million copies of the four books would be printed, with printing expected to be completed by December 15, subject to approval.
The 'Sports' textbook will cover various games, including football, cricket, kabaddi, badminton and chess, alongside self-defence techniques, first aid, nutrition and injury prevention.
'Bangladesh Culture' will introduce students to the country's history, traditions, arts, food, social customs and ethnic communities. It will also feature the history of the children's talent competition 'Notun Kuri', launched in 1976 under the initiative of then-president Ziaur Rahman.
The 'Learning with Happiness' textbook aims to reduce academic pressure by encouraging students to learn through interactive activities and everyday experiences rather than relying solely on memorisation and examinations.
Meanwhile, 'My Technical Education' will focus on practical skills, problem-solving, technology, entrepreneurship and sustainable living.
Mahdi Amin said the sports and culture subjects would eventually be expanded to Classes I–V, while 'Learning with Happiness' and technical education would be introduced across Classes VI–X.
