A Natore court sent Nuruzzaman Mintu, the eldest son of Natore-4 MP Abdul Aziz, to jail on Friday following a three-day remand in connection with the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Saddam Hossain of the Natore Judge Court issued the order after police presented Mintu in court on Friday afternoon.
Detective Branch (DB) police initially detained Mintu on the night of October 27 following news of Shakil's death. He was shown arrested the next day and granted a three-day remand against a ten-day petition.
Case Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam noted that another remand application may be submitted later for investigation purposes.
Meanwhile, DB police detained two more individuals on Thursday night for questioning: Alamin Hossain and Anisur Rahman. Natore District DB Police Officer-in-Charge Md. Nazrul Islam and Additional Superintendent of Police Iftekhar Alam confirmed their detention, adding that appropriate legal action will follow questioning.
In addition, the District Jhatra Dal organized a doa mahfil at the Paschim Alaipur Jame Mosque after Jummah prayers on Friday to seek eternal peace for Shakil's soul, attended by senior district BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders.
Shakil was critically injured on October 14 when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle hacked him with sharp weapons near Bilchalan Shamsuzzoha College.
He passed away while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University after being moved through several hospitals.
