Playback legend Andrew Kishore was born on this day in 1955 in Rajshahi. Widely known as the ‘Playback Emperor’, he had little interest in celebrating his birthday during his lifetime and usually spent the day with family members. This year marks the fifth birthday anniversary observed by his family and fans since his death.
On the occasion, family members will remember the legendary singer and offer prayers at his grave in Rajshahi.
Andrew Kishore began his playback career in 1977 with the song ‘Achinpurer Rajkumari Nei Je Tar Keu’, composed by Alam Khan for the film Mail Train. Over his career, he gifted audiences countless popular songs.
A recipient of the National Film Award eight times, his memorable songs include ‘Amar Sara Deho Kheyo Go Mati’, ‘Dak Diyachhen Doyal Amare’, ‘Hayre Manush Rongin Fanush’, ‘Jiboner Golpo Ache Baki Olpo’, ‘Tumi Amar Jibon’ and ‘Sobai To Bhalobasha Chay’.
His mother, Minu Baroi, was fond of music and admired singer Kishore Kumar. Inspired by her favourite artist, she named her son Kishore. He received his initial music lessons from Abdul Aziz Bachchu and later joined Rajshahi Betar as a singer.
After battling cancer for 10 months, Andrew Kishore died on July 6, 2020. His timeless songs continue to live in the hearts of music lovers, securing his lasting place in Bangla music history.
