Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King has reportedly generated Rs 665 crore through the sale of various distribution and other rights even before its theatrical release, setting high expectations for the December release.

According to film trade website Sacnilk, the film has earned the amount through deals involving its international and domestic theatrical distribution, digital streaming, satellite and music rights.

The international distribution rights have reportedly been sold to Fars Film for Rs 175 crore under a minimum guarantee agreement. The deal is said to be the highest minimum guarantee for the overseas distribution rights of an Indian film. Previously, such agreements had not crossed Rs 100 crore.

In the domestic market, Pen Marudhar has acquired the theatrical distribution rights for Rs 250 crore, according to a report by Pinkvilla.

The film has also secured substantial revenue from non-theatrical rights. Netflix has reportedly acquired its digital streaming rights for Rs 150 crore, while satellite and music rights have been sold for Rs 25 crore and Rs 65 crore respectively.

However, the agreement with Netflix reportedly includes a performance-based clause, under which the final value of the streaming rights may vary depending on the film’s box office performance.

The film's production budget has also increased significantly. Initially estimated at around Rs 200 crore, the budget has reportedly risen to approximately Rs 400 crore following changes in the production plans. Including Shah Rukh Khan’s remuneration, the total cost could reach Rs 500 crore.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King will feature Shah Rukh Khan alongside his daughter Suhana Khan and Deepika Padukone. The cast also includes Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, Saurabh Shukla and Bobby Deol.

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24.
