Vehicles carrying agricultural produce and teachers and students travelling to educational institutions will be exempt from the ongoing indefinite road blockade in Sajek from Wednesday, November 4.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Sajek Gan Odhikar Rakkha Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association on Tuesday afternoon. The organisations confirmed the decision in a statement sent to the media.

Under the revised arrangement, vehicles transporting locally produced agricultural goods and those carrying teachers and students to schools, colleges and universities will be allowed to move through the blockade. Vehicles previously exempted will also remain outside its scope.

The organisations said the decision was made in consideration of the interests of farmers and agricultural traders from both the hill and Bengali communities in Sajek.

However, the groups said the concession would not affect the main blockade programme. The indefinite road blockade will continue until the five-point demands of Sajek residents are met.

The statement was signed by Bijoy Kanti Chakma, member secretary of the Sajek Gan Odhikar Rakkha Committee.
