Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said the banned Awami League has gone underground, accusing the previous government of misusing public funds and failing to complete key development projects.
He made the remarks after offering Friday prayers at the Upazila Central Jame Mosque during a visit to Kamarkhand in Sirajganj on Friday (November 6).
Tuku alleged that Sheikh Hasina's government focused mainly on building bridges and flyovers while depleting bank funds. He said the current government completed the Dhaka-Mymensingh electricity transmission line within 10 months, reducing load-shedding in the region.
He also announced that the Kadda-Jamtoil road would be widened, with the tender process completed and work set to begin soon. On the energy crisis, he cited global conflicts and higher fuel import costs, warning that energy spending could affect social programmes, including road construction, Family Cards and school development.
Tuku urged households to install solar panels to reduce electricity bills and said the government would support the initiative. Local BNP and its affiliated organisations' leaders attended the programme.
