Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has mocked former president Jair Bolsonaro's son Flavio, calling him “bad luck” after Donald Trump's Republican Party suffered a setback in the US midterm elections.
Speaking during a YouTube livestream on Thursday (November 6), Lula said, “He is bad luck. Because of him, Trump lost. He arrived in the United States, and Trump lost.”
Flavio reportedly moved to Miami after losing Brazil's presidential election runoff to Lula on October 25, securing the latter's fourth term in office.
The Brazilian senator is facing investigations over allegations of corruption, money laundering and tax evasion. Lula accused him of seeking US protection to avoid legal proceedings and said he must return to Brazil to face the cases.
Meanwhile, Democrats secured control of both chambers of the US Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections, dealing a major setback to Trump's Republican Party.
Flavio has refused to personally accept his election defeat and alleged fraud without providing evidence.
