Fire at Ashulia workers colony doused after 2 hrs

A fire broke out at a workers colony in Ashulia police station area in the capital’s Savar upazila on Thursday evening, gutting several rooms before being brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts.

The incident occurred at around 7:15 PM at a workers colony owned by Alauddin in the Police Station Road area of Ashulia. No casualties were reported immediately.

DEPZ Fire Service Firefighter Kawsar Ali said they received information about the fire at 7:15 PM. Two units of the Fire Service were dispatched to the scene and began operations to contain the blaze. After nearly two hours of efforts, the fire was fully brought under control at around 9:16 PM.

He added that four rooms of the workers colony were completely gutted in the fire, causing an estimated loss of around Tk 2 lakh. The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately.

An investigation will be conducted to ascertain the origin of the blaze, officials said.
