3 killed in auto-rickshaw-covered van collision in Cox's Bazar

Three people, including two members of the same family, were killed in a collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van at Khuniyapalong on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway in Ramu. Two others were critically injured in the incident.

The accident took place around 3:00PM on Monday in the School Pahar area of Khuniyapalong Union. Following the crash, locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

The deceased were identified as two sisters, Rubina Akter and Shahina Akter. The identity of the other deceased person could not be immediately known.

Locals said there were a total of five passengers, including the driver, in the CNG-run auto-rickshaw. One person died on the spot in the collision.

Later, two more women succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Sukanta Dev, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramu Highway Police Station, said that the highway police are working to investigate the cause of the accident. The covered van and the CNG-run auto-rickshaw have been seized from the spot.
