TANGAIL, Jan 12: More than 50 leaders and activists from various levels of the Jatiya Party (Kader faction) in Tangail District have resigned from their party and joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The formal induction took place on Monday at the BNP election office of MP candidate and party Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku near the old bus stand in the Tangail town.

Sultan Salauddin Tuku welcomed the newcomers by presenting them with flowers. The joining leaders included Abu Saiyad Azad, former general secretary of Tangail Sadar Upazila Jatiya Party; Mofizur Rahman, former secretary of Hugra Union; Abdul Latif, former president of Ward No. 5; Mahbub Hasan, former general secretary of Mogra Union; and Jinnah Khan, president of Ward No. 5, among others.

The newly joined leaders pledged to work in a coordinated manner to ensure victory for BNP's 'Paddy Sheaf' symbol in the 13th national parliamentary election. They stated that their decision to resign from the Jatiya Party and join BNP was aimed at supporting Sultan Salauddin Tuku's candidacy.

Speaking at the event, Sultan Salauddin Tuku said, "The BNP never engages in politics for the sake of power. Our politics is based on defending people's rights, ensuring voting rights, and strengthening democracy. The voluntary induction of leaders from various political parties is proof that BNP is now the symbol of public trust and the last hope for the people."

He further promised that if elected, he would work with everyone to build a modern, safe Tangail free from terrorism, drugs, extortion, and teenage gangs.

The programme was attended by Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, former joint secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali, and other party leaders and activists.
