LAXMIPUR, Jan 19: BNP candidate for Laxmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency Shahadat Hossain Selim has been served a show-cause notice for allegedly seeking votes in violation of the electoral code of conduct for the 13th parliamentary elections.
The matter was confirmed on Sunday through a letter signed by Billal Hossain, judge of the Raipur Civil Judge Court and a member of the Election Investigation and Judicial Committee.
According to the notice, Selim organised a gathering and sought votes, which he later shared on his personal Facebook account. As a contesting candidate, such actions constitute a clear violation of Rules 3 and 18 of the Political Parties and Candidates' Code of Conduct for Parliamentary Elections-2025, the notice said.
The committee directed Selim to appear in person or through a representative by January 20 to explain why a complaint, along with a recommendation, should not be forwarded to the Election Commission against him.
