JOYPURHAT, Nov 2: A special cleanup drive was held in Joypurhat on Saturday to prevent dengue and raise public awareness about the mosquito-borne disease.
Organised by the district administration, with support from Joypurhat Municipality and BD Clean Joypurhat, the campaign took place in the Jubilee Hall area of the town in the morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Al Mamun Mia attended the event as the chief guest.
Others included Jadab Sarkar, Deputy Director of the Local Government Division and Municipal Administrator; Dr Sardar Rashed Mobarak Jewel, Superintendent of Joypurhat 400-Bed General Hospital; Golzar Hossain, Convener of the District BNP; executive magistrates Jahangir Alam and Badal Mia of the DC office; and Rakibul Hasan, district coordinator of BD Clean.
Speakers emphasised the importance of keeping homes and surrounding areas clean to prevent dengue and urged residents to strengthen their awareness and take proactive measures.
As part of the campaign, water hyacinths and accumulated waste were removed from drains, water bodies and neglected areas across the town.
Organisers said such initiatives play an important role in eliminating potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which spread dengue.
