Dhaka University (DU) achieved a milestone on Thursday by hosting its first-ever Student Research Conference, more than a century after the institution's founding and roughly seven decades after similar events became routine at top global universities.

Over 100 students gathered at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building to present research posters in what organizers hailed as historic. For context, universities like Harvard have been holding undergraduate research symposia since 1999, and Oxford since the 2000s.

At the opening session, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan encouraged students, emphasizing that "research is a challenging task" and that the effort might prove beneficial in the future.

He also stressed the importance of industry-academia collaboration, a concept long implemented in developed nations.
