DMP tightens security for July Uprising Day

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken extensive and multi-layered security measures to maintain law and order and ensure public safety in the capital ahead of July Uprising Day on August 5.

Police said SWAT, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Dog Squad will conduct special sweeping operations at locations expected to witness large public gatherings. A sufficient number of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will also remain on standby to respond immediately to any emergency.

DMP gave such information about the security arrangement in a press released on Tuesday signed by DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehdi.   

It said that the measures were taken to prevent any acts of sabotage, untoward incidents or threats to public security during the observance of the day.

As part of the security plan, police pickets and checkpoints have been significantly increased across the capital. Security checks at all entry points to Dhaka will be intensified, while officers from the Detective Branch (DB) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, operating in plain clothes, will be deployed at all key venues.

In addition, all programme venues and the July Memorial areas have been brought under a special security arrangement with surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones. Intelligence operations by the Counter Terrorism and Special Branch (CTSB) and the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), working in plain clothes, are also continuing at full scale.

The released also read that alongside regular police deployments, additional DMP personnel, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will jointly remain active across the city to ensure overall security.
