The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a temporary suspension for Md. Kamal Hossain, a Senior Assistant Secretary and Officer on Special Duty (OSD), following his imprisonment on charges of identity fraud to secure a prestigious government position.
The disciplinary action follows a high-profile investigation by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which alleges that Kamal Hossain fabricated his biological lineage to exploit the "freedom fighter" quota—a system reserved for the descendants of national heroes from the 1971 Liberation War.
According to a ministry notification issued on Sunday, Kamal Hossain was sent to jail on January 28, 2026, after the Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court rejected his bail application.
The suspension was enacted under Section 39(2) of the Government Service Act 2018, which mandates the temporary removal of a public servant upon their arrest or imprisonment in a criminal case.
The case, filed on Dec 26, 2024, by Md. Monjurul Islam Mintu, Deputy Director of the ACC Dhaka-1 District Coordination Office, alleges that Kamal Hossain presented his uncle, Bir Muktijoddha Md. Ahsan Habib, and aunt, Sanoara Khatun, as his father and mother to claim freedom fighter quota benefits. Using this false identity, he gained admission to a university and later secured a BCS administration cadre job under the quota.
