Jamaat calls emergency press meet over detention of Thakurgaon Ameer

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called an emergency press conference to present its official stance regarding the detention of its Thakurgaon district Ameer Belal Uddin, who was detained with nearly Tk 50 lakh in cash.

The press conference was held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday at the party’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

The information was confirmed by Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and head of its central publicity and media department.

Earlier in the day, Belal Uddin was detained at Syedpur Airport in Nilphamari with approximately Tk 50 lakh during a routine security check.

Airport sources said a large amount of cash was found in his possession during a regular search. He was later detained after reportedly failing to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the money during questioning.
