Jamaat-e-Islami's Central Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair has described the incident of the Thakurgaon Jamaat Ameer being detained with Tk 50 lakh as a staged drama by law enforcement agencies.

''The Thakurgaon Jamaat Ameer is a businessman. The money in question is not related to the election, it is related to his business purpose.''

He made these remarks at an emergency press conference held at the party's central office on Wednesday.

Ehsanul Mahbub added, ''This was a deliberate attempt to create controversy around Jamaat-e-Islami.''

He said that a group of terrorists is disrupting the peaceful environment. There is a conspiracy to prevent people from coming to polling stations peacefully.

Earlier around 12noon, police detained Belal Uddin, district ameer of Thakurgaon Jamaat-e-Islami, with approximately Tk 50 lakh in cash at Syedpur Airport.

It was known that Belal Uddin is a madrasa teacher.
