The prices of cigarettes in the lower tier have been increased by Tk 3, with the maximum retail price (MRP) of a 10-stick pack raised from Tk 62 to Tk 65.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday (September 16) through its VAT and Supplementary Duty branch.

According to the notification signed by NBR Acting Chairman Ahsan Habib, the price of 10 sticks of lower-tier cigarettes has been fixed at Tk 65 and above.

The price of 10 sticks of medium-tier cigarettes has been set at Tk 92 and above, while high-tier cigarettes will cost Tk 160 and above per 10 sticks. The price of 10 sticks of premium-tier cigarettes has been fixed at Tk 210 and above.

The latest decision follows a proposal to revise the MRP of lower-tier cigarettes from Tk 62 to Tk 65 per 10 sticks.

The proposal was approved at a cabinet meeting held at the National Parliament complex on September 7, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Following the approval, the NBR issued the notification revising the price of lower-tier cigarettes.
