The convict was identified as Saiful Islam, 25, a resident of Hetalia village in the upazila.

According to sources, law enforcement personnel arrested Saiful Islam around noon from the 22 No South Hetalia Government Primary School polling centre in Pirojpur-2 constituency while he was posing as an election observer without valid authorisation.

Later, First Class Magistrate (on election duty) Md Zakir Hossain conducted a mobile court and handed down the sentence of two years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 1,000.
